Safety and Risk Awareness

Climbing Risks

The climbing wall, while artificial, presents risks comparable to those encountered in natural climbing environments. Although safety equipment is provided, it does not eliminate all risks. Inadequate knowledge or skills can lead to falls, injuries, or, in severe cases, fatalities. Always assess the risks and choose your climbing level wisely.

Responsibility for Safety

Climbers must take full responsibility for their own safety and the safety of those under their supervision. The Adventure World of Business reserves the right to deny access to individuals who significantly violate our terms and safety rules. Only registered members of the AWB system are permitted to use the climbing wall.

Registration and Induction

Initial Registration

First-time climbers must sign up at the reception, obtain a membership card, and complete an induction session on using auto-belay systems with an instructor. This procedure is mandatory for all climbers.

Supervision for Minors

Children must be under the supervision of an instructor or an experienced adult climber. It is prohibited for children to use climbing equipment or auto-belays without supervision. Individuals under 18 years of age must be continuously supervised by registered adults or instructors.

Climbing Guidelines

Usage Based on Competency

After registration, climbers may use the facility according to their competency level—bouldering, auto-belay, top rope, or lead climbing. Climbers are responsible for their safety and the safety of those they supervise.

Equipment Standards

All climbing equipment must comply with UIAA standards, be less than 5 years old, and be free of excessive wear or damage. For lead climbing, a minimum of 30 meters of single rope with a diameter of less than 10.1 mm is required. Instructors make the final decision on equipment acceptance.

Prohibited Activities

  • Aid or solo climbing is not allowed.
  • Teaching advanced climbing techniques, abseiling, or caving is only permitted by qualified instructors with AWB’s written consent.
  • Bouldering mats provide safety in bouldering areas, and jumping from heights is discouraged to avoid injuries.

Belaying and Safety Procedures

Safe Belaying Practices

Belaying must be done safely and effectively, following climbing regulations. A safety knot should be tied on the belay rope behind the device, and belaying from a sitting or lying position is prohibited.

Belaying Responsibility

Belayers are responsible for the safety of the climber, ensuring there is no dangerous slack in the rope.

Climbing Etiquette

Attention and Distractions

Do not distract climbers or belayers. Avoid standing directly under the climbing wall unless actively climbing or belaying.

Clothing and Gear

Climbers should wear sports attire and climbing shoes. Climbing without shoes or in sandals/flip-flops is prohibited. Jewelry and items in pockets, such as mobile phones, that may pose a safety risk must be removed.

Equipment Use

Do not grab construction structures, installations, or equipment not intended for climbing. Report any problems with climbing holds or equipment to an instructor immediately.

Conduct and Compliance

Instructor Authority

Follow all instructor directions and commands. Any individual whose behavior does not comply with our terms and conditions will be removed from the facility without a refund.

For a safe and enjoyable climbing experience, please adhere to these guidelines and respect our facility's rules. We look forward to welcoming you to our climbing wall in Muscat!
