A world premiere from the producers of the Gabrielle Chanel and Come un
Respiro ballets, staged at Dubai Opera in January 2023.
Alternating dance and dazzling video art, rhythmed by Antonio Vivaldi’s
musical themes from The Four Seasons, "4" is a synergy of contemporary
ballet, digital images and classical music.
Produced in the UAE by MuzArts Baldaquin Culture and premiering in Dubai
to coincide with the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference
(COP28), “4” is designed as a spectacular illustration of the
unprecedented climate changes affecting us and our planet.
With Video art by MTV and Grammy awards nominee The French Kiss Lab and
with a choreography composed by Eno Peci from the Vienna State Ballet,
“4” stages four star dancers of the Bolshoy and of the Vienna State
Ballet: Mila Schmidt, Maria Vinogradova, Ildar Gaynutdinov and Gabriele
Aime.
Their performance tells the intertwined stories of the four ages of
civilisation, of the four stages of each human life, and of the eternal
succession of the four – rapidly changing – seasons, deeply impacted by
climate change. “4” shows how egoistic pulsions have alienated humanity
from nature. How, guided by pride and consumption, we often make
disastrous choices affecting all living things. Starting from spring and
as seasons advance, the further progress goes, the more confident
humanity grows that it can harness the power of nature. At the end of
this journey, in a world scarred by human hubris, a ray of hope appears:
a hope for love and new seasons.
